Key Questions HR Leaders Need to Address Now!

By Susan Hanold, Vice President, Strategic Advisory Services – Talent Management at ADP, PhD More than 400 HR leaders recently descended on Denver to attend the Mile High SHRM Conference, where leading practitioners and speakers shared inspirational stories on human resources. As a speaker at the event, I led a discussion on “HR’s Changing Role” and shared insights into current and emerging issues in human capital management, employment trends, and the evolving role of HR. ADP’s Susan Hanold speaking at the Mile High SHRM Conference in January 2017 According to the ADP® Workforce Vitality report, employees who switch jobs after three to five years are poised for higher wage growth. With that work experience under their belt, those employees are highly marketable but not entirely committed to their current job. In this jobswitcher’s market, HR leaders need to ask themselves the following questions. What are you doing to develop and retain key employees? Many of the HR professionals I met with said they are increasing training opportunities and changing...

Things Your Company Should Consider as New Overtime Rules are Put on Hold

In May last year, the United States Department of Labor (DOL) released final regulations that modified certain provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). Specifically, the final regulations increased the minimum salary required to be earned by an employee in order for that employee to be exempt from the FLSA overtime requirements. While these regulations are in flux, the FLSA is here to stay! No changes have made, or even proposed, that affect the need to properly classify employees into exempt and non-exempt categories, pay overtime wages to non-exempt employees working more than 40 hours in a workweek, and a host of other FLSA requirements. And that’s just at the federal level. States and municipalities increasingly are entering the field and creating their own wage and hour requirements. It’s natural to ask: What should my business be doing? Join our event this Thursday with other HR execs like yourself and get critical insights on things your company should consider as the new overtime rules are put on hold....

Taking Unconscious Bias Out of Hiring: ADP Search and Visualization Tool Helps Recruiters Focus on the Right Candidate

Rita Mitjans, Chief Diversity & Corporate Social Responsibility Officer

The business case for workplace diversity is clear – we live in a world made up of people with different backgrounds and world views, and the companies that reflect this can best meet the needs of their equally diverse stakeholders. Yet, less than half of organizations today say that their diversity and inclusion initiatives are successful.[i] What’s stopping them? One of the most common challenges is not equipping recruiters, or managers, with the ability to be impartial when making hiring decisions – 20 percent of large enterprises do not have the tools to help ensure fair and unbiased resume reviews.[ii] It’s human nature to make quick judgments about people and situations influenced by our cultural environment, preferences and experiences. This natural human tendency of “unconscious bias” can impact a company’s ability to match the best talent for a given role. At ADP, we’re helping organizations take action through Visual Search, a new search and visualization tool that helps to remove factors like gender, ethnicity and pay from the candidate...
