The Next Stone in the Path: My Decades-Long Journey as a Woman in Technology

By Isabel Espina, VP of Enterprise Architecture, ADP and 2016 recipient of Anita Borg Institute “Woman of Vision” award “What’s it like being a woman in tech?” is a question I’m often asked. Throughout my career, the lack of women in STEM-oriented roles has always been very apparent. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, women still account for only 25 percent of full-time workers in computer and mathematical occupations and 14 percent in architecture and engineering.1 When I started my career 30 years ago, this disparity was even more pronounced. I was working in operations for a bank after graduating with my degree in electrical engineering and computer science. Now, as I look back on my career and am celebrating my 20-year anniversary with ADP, I’m happy to say that there has been significant progress. Throughout the past two decades, ADP and I have evolved alongside each other as innovators. Since I was young, I gravitated towards science and math. I loved that these fields provided a problem...

Updated Wage Garnishment Study from the ADP Research Institute® Examines New Facets of This Workforce Issue

By Julie Farraj, division vice president and general manager, Wage Garnishments and Unemployment/Employment Verification Services for ADP Added Value Services A new 2017 study by the ADP Research Institute® (ADPRI) continues to flesh out the facets of wage garnishment and its impact on employers and their workers.   Based on the anonymous 2016 pay data of about 12 million U.S. workers, this new study reveals that one in 14 of those workers are carrying a wage garnishment and an estimated 12 percent of those with a garnishment have more than one type of wage garnishment. This research also introduced a new metric – the number of wage garnishments per employee, which according to the study averages 1.4 per employee.   The study showed that in 2016, approximately 7 percent of the U.S. workforce had their wages garnished. Of the four types of wage garnishment studied, the highest rate was for child support, followed by “other” general garnishments, such as student debt and consumer loans, tax levy, and bankruptcy.  ...

SiliconAngle: ADP discovers development benefits of combining virtualization with cloud ‘bursts’

A recent article on siliconAngle.com discusses that agility means more than just speed. It also comes down to flexibility. The cloud provides that flexibility to companies by offering services on demand, and when a company needs more storage or compute, it’s there. When they don’t, those things go away. Combining virtualized infrastructure with the cloud creates an entirely new way of developing information technology products. Juan Gaviria, senior director of technical systems engineering at ADP spoke with host Stu Miniman and guest host Justin Warren of theCUBE, SiliconANGLE’s mobile livestreaming studio, during the VMworld conference in Las Vegas. They discussed how ADP uses the cloud and the company’s development environment. Gaviria explains that customers are turning to smartphones and other mobile devices, and because of this, ADP has refocused on mobile-first technologies. This kind of demand calls for new technologies. Watch the complete video interview here. 6 Ways an LMS Can Boost Your Sales Team’s Performance

By: Samantha Lang from Litmos by CallidusCloud Across industries, well-trained and professional salespeople are key to inspiring consumers to buy. They’re essential to guiding customers smoothly through the sales cycle and capturing the coveted close. But, given the pace of change in business today, they sometimes lack the latest know-how to get the job done. All too often, onboarding for new hires simply isn’t a thorough enough education to set people up for success. Salespeople are thrown into the job and go one of two routes; they either don’t succeed or they learn to survive on their own via a combination of resourcefulness, formal and informal training, and experiential learning. Shouldn’t there be a more consistent way of ensuring success? The short answer is: yes. A learning management solution (LMS) is the key to keeping sales (and all other job functions) up to speed on the latest products, services, compliance regulations, and company policies and updates. Especially for salespeople, who tend to be driven and ambitious – even a...

Inc.com Features ADP on Five Keys to Creating a Culture That Stands Apart

What’s the X Factor that sets one business apart from the others? Is it offering the right service at the right time? People who are dedicated and engaged in working toward success? Customers that advocate for your business? These are all important, yet, you could have all these things going for you and still fail. So what’s the real secret to success? I recently talked to three business leaders who shared their lessons for identifying the X factor that can set your business and culture apart. People are one of the most important factors in any business. They’re the ones making decisions that impact customers, and they’re the ones who determine whether your culture exists on paper, or in real life. Hiring the right people and managing them so they can do their best work are critical to the success of any business. But, if it’s so foundational, why do so many organizations struggle with it? Jordan Birnbaum is VP and Chief Behavioral Economist at TalentX, an ADP Venture;...

Workplace Compliance Spotlight: Identifying Wage Inequality through Data Exploration

Achieving pay equity is top-of-mind for organizations. While organizations have always placed substantial value on talent acquisition, expectations for transparency around equal pay have increased. Given today’s war for talent, a commitment to pay equity is one of the easiest ways to differentiate yourself from your competition. But it’s about more than talent – it’s about identifying possible inequitable pay practices you didn’t even know you had. From a compliance perspective, in addition to the federal EEO-1 report, most states have pay equity laws. Tackling the issue proactively can save you from legal problems now and later down the road. Employers may wish to review their current hiring, job evaluation, and pay practices to ensure that they are compliant and defensible. But the complexities in the regulations and the sheer amount of pay data that exists – internally in every organization and externally in the market – can make it difficult for leaders to develop policies to promote and realize pay equity. Join us on September 26th with other...

ADP Byline on Employee Benefits Advisor: Easing Concerns of ‘Unbanked’ Employees

Employee Benefit Adviser has posted a byline article from ADP SME Aldor H. Delp titled, “Easing Concerns of Unbanked Employees,” which explores the challenges to HR and payroll leaders to accommodate the needs of unbanked and underbanked employees. In this article, Delp points out that nearly 16 million consumers in the U.S. are “unbanked,” which means no one in the household where they live has a checking or savings account, according to a recent Forbes article. Add to that, there are more than 50 million U.S. adults, according to Forbes, who are considered “underbanked” because banking services may be complex, expensive, or difficult to access for them, or a bank account may be too expensive to open. Benefits and payroll leaders trying to accommodate the needs of these employees can experience a real challenge. One solution is a payroll card, which can provide a tremendous amount of flexibility to unbanked and underbanked employees and help employers more efficiently and securely pay them. The Treatment Center: Returning to ADP® Comprehensive Services Results in Time and Money Saved

The Treatment Center and the Adolescent Treatment Center of the Palm Beaches is a substance abuse and mental health facility that helps patients on the road to lifelong recovery from addiction. They started with ADP in 2011 but left ADP for a competitor in 2015. Four months later, they returned to ADP and implemented ADP® Comprehensive Services. Sandra Rose, Human Resources Director explained that one of the reasons why she came back to ADP was because she wasn’t able to manipulate data in the competitor’s system to get the reports she needed quickly. When she returned, Sandra discovered that the ADP Comprehensive Services offering had been enhanced and now offered even more information and more standard reporting, leading to greater efficiencies for her staff and the Center as a whole. ADP’s systems were much more user friendly, with “real-time” and customizable reporting and Sandra was impressed with the attentiveness of ADP’s dedicated HR team and Relationship Manager.
