Korn states, “We were challenged to find a way to connect the system with the human capital management [HCM] solutions from ADP that we had already been using. Three Ways to Improve the Interview Process

By Tiffanie Ross, Senior Director, AIRS Training at ADP The interview process itself hasn’t changed much over the past 20 years. Despite investing a lot of time and effort, hiring managers still are often left wondering if they’re offering the job to the right candidate. So what can you do to help ensure you’re recruiting the top talent your company needs? Consider these three steps to make the entire experience easier for hiring managers, recruiters and candidates. 1) Speed up the interview process. Start by limiting delays in the cycle. Delays happen frequently and for many reasons: Travel, changing schedules, and more. At the same time, the United States is near full employment, so job markets are tightening and causing recruiters to reach outside of their local markets to tap into talent nationwide. That means not all candidates will be able to easily swing by the office for an interview. To speed the process, companies should consider using video interviews and interview-scheduling tools. While video interviews aren’t an entirely...

Which Hat is it Today? ADP Study Finds 1.5 Million U.S. Small Businesses Spend Billions to Manage HR as an ‘Ad Hoc’ Function, Increasing Business Risk

By Brian Michaud, Senior Vice President, ADP TotalSource® Small business owners and their employees wear a lot of hats. One day it’s sales maven, the next it’s marketing guru or back-office ace. It seems to be the nature of the beast. But that approach – especially for small business owners who already push the boundaries of a 24-hour day with limited resources – has a startling downside and tangible hidden cost, according to a recent ADP® study. The study indicates that as many as 70 percent of small businesses in the United States – which equates to potentially 1.5 million of them – handle the human resources (HR) function with staff members who manage it on an “ad-hoc” basis in addition to their primary job. The study also shows that these ad-hoc HR managers spend more than 13 hours a week on average on human resources tasks, taking significant time away from their core responsibilities. Based on this time spent and the average wage of a small business employee,...

General Data Protection Regulation: What You Need to Know

It’s hard to believe that we’re now less than one year out from implementation of a major change to data protection laws in Europe: The General Data Protection Regulation, or GDPR. It is the result of four years’ work by the European Union (EU) to standardize privacy laws and protect residents of the EU from the misuse of their personal data and data breaches in an increasingly digital world. Most of the personal data protection laws in the EU haven’t been updated since the 1995 Data Protection Directive. In 1995, only one percent of the European population was using the Internet. Now, not only is the majority of the global economy digital, but many companies are operating globally and processing personal data across borders. The EU Parliament established the GDPR framework as a way to update and harmonize the laws specific to the usage of millions of individuals’ data. With these regulations that take effect on May 25, 2018, come a number of major implications that reach beyond the...

Rio Grande Fence Co. of Nashville Recruits and Retains Talent Using ADP TotalSource

Rio Grande Fence Co. of Nashville, Tennessee, had humble beginnings. In 1958, armed with $1,500 and pure tenacity, Derek Smith’s grandfather and grandmother invested everything they had and started the company from scratch. Over the years, the company made the decision to move away from the residential market and concentrate on providing fencing to general contractors, business owners and government agencies. This decision has enabled the company to give “white-glove treatment” to a more focused clientele and to work on establishing itself as The Commercial Fence Professionals™. That tradition of service excellence doesn’t stop with Rio Grande’s customers. It extends to the company’s more than 40 employees who, through their access to ADP TotalSource®, are empowered to more easily personalize their benefits selections, plan for retirement, and monitor their payroll. And the ADP® onboarding solution helps company management find and introduce new employees to this nurturing company culture. “A company of any merit that wants its employees to give great service has to give its employees great service,” said...

SHRM Features Stuart Sackman Discussing ADP’s Artificial Intelligence Initiative

According to a new article by SHRM, “Rather than having to navigate websites, send e-mails or make phone calls—and often wait for responses—employees can use these artificial intelligence (AI) tools to get quick, voice- or text-delivered answers to questions about paid time off, benefits eligibility, retirement savings, work schedules, and even career planning or performance coaching. For organizations, these “virtual agents” can reduce labor costs, enhance customer service and free up HR staff for strategic initiatives.” ADP’s Stuart Sackman, Corporate Vice President of Global Product and Technology highlights ADP’s Artificial Intelligence Initiative by explaining, “The next generation of HCM [human capital management] solutions is moving from graphical user interfaces to conversational user interfaces. Instead of employees having to navigate online text menus and fill out forms, many functions will be voice-generated by AI.” He explains further, “The ADP virtual agent will be powered by AI that learns employees’ patterns of behavior and predicts what information or experiences will make them more productive, efficient and engaged.” To learn more about...

Business Insider Leverages the ADP Workforce Vitality Report to Show that Job Switchers Earn More Money

Business Insider has published an article titled, “The key to earning more money may be switching jobs — and this chart proves it,” which utilizes ADP Workforce Vitality Report data to highlight how job switchers often fair better than job holders when it comes to wage growth. “Employees who changed jobs earned about 1% more year-over-year than those who stayed with the same employer. That might not make a huge difference for one year, but it could add up to hundreds of thousands of dollars of lost wages over the course of your career.” Read the full article and view the chart here: Business...
