Florida Experiences First Job Loss in More than Seven Years

Washington Federal Taps ADP to Help with Transforming their HR Processes

Washington Federal Taps ADP to Help with Transforming their HR Processes

Washington Federal, founded in 1917, offers its clients ‘one-on-one, professional, and friendly’ banking services. Based in Seattle, Washington, they currently employ 2,000 staff members across eight western states. Senior Vice President of Human Resources, Lisa King, has been in banking for almost thirty years and with Washington Federal for nine of them. Within the first few years, King saw the company grow significantly through acquisitions; but with more staff on board, HR faced new challenges. With employees in multiple locations, her team also had to manage the laws and compliance regulations that varied from state to state. In order for her team to have the time needed to successfully expand the company, King needed the help of a comprehensive human resource provider: Washington Federal chose ADP Workforce Now®. Says King, “Now that we have the time back from answering phone calls, we can turn to other strategic initiatives, such as reporting – which is now automatic. We have a very accurate and up-to-date database.” Her team is finally able...

Thanksgiving Cooking Is Finished But Here’s An Easy Recipe for Improving Your Job Descriptions

Thanksgiving Cooking Is Finished But Here’s An Easy Recipe for Improving Your Job Descriptions

Job descriptions can help you identify the essential functions of the job and the qualifications needed for a role. They can also help you set clear expectations with employees, evaluate performance, make compensation decisions, identify training needs, handle requests for reasonable accommodations, and make exempt vs. non-exempt classification decisions. Here are six guidelines for developing effective job descriptions: #1: Be consistent. To help make valid comparisons between jobs, use the same format for each job description. Generally, this includes: Job details: job title, supervisor’s title, exempt vs. non-exempt classification, a brief summary of the job, and the date the job description was created or last revised. Essential functions: job duties that an employee must be able to perform with or without a reasonable accommodation. Non-essential functions: additional tasks the employee may be required to perform during the course of his or her job, but are not essential to the job. Qualifications and skills: training, education, certification(s), and years of experience needed to perform the job. Physical demands and work...

Why Businesspeople Should Learn a New Language

Why Businesspeople Should Learn a New Language

By Rosetta Stone Enterprise and Education – ADP Marketplace Partner Recently, the UK version of the Huffington Post blog published a list of eight reasons why you should learn a language. Although the list was directed at post-secondary students, some of its insights can be applied to the world of business. We’ll start with cognitive benefits. It seems as if the scientific community keeps building the case that bilinguals experience brain-strengthening benefits compared to monolingual cohorts. If you want to stay sharp throughout your career, including staving off the effects of dementia, learning a language is a great strategy. The list talks a lot about culture. The cultural competency gained through learning a language is just as valuable to a career as the language skills themselves. Understanding the people and places you are targeting is a great way to make a positive impression on clients, coworkers, and other colleagues. Then there are the practical benefits to a career. Bilingualism is one of the most sought-after skills in the marketplace....

Recruiting Trends: Passive vs. Active Jobseekers: Report Uncovers a Big Disconnect

Recruiting Trends: Passive vs. Active Jobseekers: Report Uncovers a Big Disconnect

Recruiting Trends highlighted findings from the ADP Research Institute’s® Evolution of Work study, which found that while only 24 percent of employees are actively seeking a new job, 42 percent said they’re not actively looking, yet are open to considering a new position. Ahu Yildirmaz, Co-Founder of the ADP Research Institute says “Employers are definitely overestimating the number of active jobseekers and underestimating the number of passive seekers.” Why are so many organizations underestimating the number of passive jobseekers within their ranks? Yildirmaz says it’s because they’re more focused on attracting new talent than on retaining and engaging the talent they already have. “If you think about the talent cycle, it’s not just about attracting new candidates, but keeping your existing employees, too,” she says.
