Every year since 1963 the Small Business Administration (SBA) has highlighted the impact of outstanding entrepreneurs, small business owners, and others from across the nation through National Small Business Week. In 2018, this important week runs from April 30 to May 5.
The SBA is hosting events all around the country to honor small businesses and their owners for the huge impact they make to their local communities and our national economy.
There are many reasons why small businesses deserve a special shout out. Looking at our National Employment Report data published by the ADP Research Institute®, we see some pretty amazing facts. Here are a few for starters:
- The small businesses segment of the U.S. economy accounts for more than 40 percent of overall U.S. employment
- During 2017, small businesses accounted for 30 percent of overall employment growth
- Private-sector small business employment increased by 47,000 jobs from February to March 2018, according to ADP National Employment Report® data.
Take this easy step
So, how can you celebrate National Small Business Week? It’s easy – shop small! As you visit your local shops and stores, take a look around and think about how much they contribute to the communities where we work and live. And, don’t forget that many local small businesses have websites where you can buy their products and services, too.
